Democratizing Network Interconnection: Why Internet Exchange Points Are Needed In Small Cities And Towns Across America
August 8 – 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm
Governor's Square 15
Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) are facilities where local ISPs, transport networks, content networks, cloud services, education networks, and others exchange data traffic. They exist predominantly in major metros like New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Seattle. But did you know that 14 states don’t have an IXP at all? This negatively impacts wholesale pricing, network resiliency, and importantly, latency—an aspect of the digital divide that is only widening as applications and services are being developed for ultra-low-latency connections in large cities. Learn how non-profit Connected Nation is working with network interconnection pioneer Hunter Newby to address this problem and establish carrier-neutral IXPs in regional hub cities and towns across America.
